The Communications
Secretary to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry is
set to step down later this year to pursue a new career, retraining
as a lawyer. Dr Ed Perkins is perhaps most famous for his role in
handing the document to the driver to be taken to Buckingham Palace
after the birth of Prince George last year and has worked at the
Kensington Palace press office since December of 2012.
Prior to his appointment as the Kensington Palace communications
secretary, Perkins was the Deputy Press Secretary to The Queen for
five years, having been sourced from ITN where he was a senior
editor.
Perkins’s replacement is yet to be confirmed though the current
Deputy Communications Secretary to William, Kate and Harry – Nick
Loughran – looks like the most likely choice for the KP press
office.
Canada’s Royal 22nd Regiment to found Queen’s Guard for
first time in 74 years
The Royal 22nd Regiment of Canada will found the Queen’s Guard in
London for the first time since 1940 for three days this month, it
is announced. The regiments, whose ceremonial dress is very similar
to that of the five regiments of foot guards in the British Army
will provide sentries for St James’s Palace, Clarence House,
Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London during their tours of
duty which starts on Monday 14th July, happens again on the
Wednesday and concludes with a final guard mount on the Friday.
During the summer months, other regiments from Britain and the
Commonwealth are invited to mount The Queen’s guard as a result of
operational commitments of the foot guard regiments and to allow
the honour of guarding The Queen to be shared by other regiments
who ordinarily wouldn’t get the chance.
Prince Charles to be joined by William and Harry
at Responsible Business Awards
Gala Dinner
Next Tuesday will see the annual Responsible Business Awards gala
dinner held at the Royal Albert Hall. As president (and founder) of
the Business in the Community charity, Prince Charles will also
this year be joined by the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry, in
recognition of work being done by responsible businesses to create
employment opportunities for ex-service personnel.
The dinner is one of a series of joint engagements between the
Wales family. Prince William will accompany Prince Charles
to a reception to mark the handing over of the presidency of the
British Sub-aqua club from father to son on 9th July while the
Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry, on behalf of The Queen, will
launch The Queen’s Young Leaders Programme at Buckingham Palace on
the same day.
JLP’s time in the Royal Household comes to a
close
The former Private Secretary to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton has been appointed as an extra equerry
to the couple as he finally bows out from his time working in
the household. The position, which should be reflected in the Court
Circular in the coming days, is an entirely honorary one which
carries no duties and is often given to retiring courtiers after
years of service.
Lowther-Pinkerton officially stepped down last September though
remained for one day a week to advise younger staff until now. In
stepping down last year, he was also made one of Prince George’s
godparents, showing the close connection the former Army officer
shares with the Cambridges.]]>
