Prince Oscar of Sweden celebrates his ninth birthday

The Swedish Royal Family has more happy news as Prince Oscar celebrates his ninth birthday. The family shared a new portrait of the young prince to mark the day.

On March 2 2025, the Swedish Royal Family shared a new portrait of Prince Oscar in honour of his birthday with the caption, “H.R.H. Prince Oscar turns 9 today. Congratulations!”

The portrait was shot by family favourite Kate Gabor, who also shot Princess Estelle’s birthday portrait released last week. Gabor was the photographer behind Estelle’s first newborn portrait.

The birthday boy was happy in the photo, and in a comfortable charcoal jumper and a navy checked shirt.

Prince Oscar was born 2 March 2016 to Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel; he joined older sister Estelle, born in 2012. Oscar was born at Karolinska University Hospital.

On 3 March 2025, his grandfather, King Carl XVI Gustaf, announced that Oscar Carl Olof would have the title of Duke of Skåne. A Te Deum service was also held that day to celebrate his birthday.

Prince Oscar is a pupil at Campus Manilla, a primary school on Royal Djurgården in Stockholm.

The young prince is third in line for the throne, and regularly joins his family for public events. He also has joined both his mum and dad for engagements, including Prince Daniel’s Race Day.
