Crown Princess Victoria visits Västerbotten County alone as Prince Daniel recovers from a cold

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden

On Thursday, Crown Princess Victoria travelled to Västerbotten County for a visit that is a part of the Royal Family’s effort to travel throughout Sweden to see first-hand the impact the pandemic had on communities.

She was supposed to travel there with Prince Daniel; however, following a cold that he got from his children, His Royal Highness preferred to remain home out of respect for the people he was going to meet.

So the Crown Princess was alone when she was welcomed by the governor of Västerbotten County, Helene Hellmark Knutsson, who hosted the visit and travelled with the Crown Princess in both towns she visited, Umeå and Skellefteå.

First, in Umeå, the pair visited Umeå City Mission’s premises, where they were welcomed by director Johan Tovetjärn, doctors Stephan Stenmark and Gunilla Persson, as well as district nurse Lena Rehnman and medical director Maria Marklund. From them, they heard of the toll the pandemic had on their structure and their activities.

The Crown Princess and the Governor then moved to Maja Beskow High School, where they met with Principal Henrik Ragnvaldsson, Director of Education Ann-Christine Gradin, Assistant Director of Education Niklas Wallmark and students Agnes Edeljung, Noah Grönberg and Ellinor Hannerfors. They heard from them about the challenges the pandemic posed to the entire education system, from teachers to students. To close the Umeå portion of the visit, the pair was given a short tour of the school premises.

Crown Princess Victoria and Governor Knutsson then travelled to Skellefteå and during the journey, they heard of the work the county is doing to face the pandemic. This presentation was given by doctor Stephan Stenmark and Susanne Lantz from the County Administrative Board.

Upon their arrival in Skellefteå, the Crown Princess and the Governor were offered lunch at Sara Kulturhus, a facility that also houses the town’s theatre, where, after the meal, the pair was welcomed and received a performance and an account of the impact the pandemic had on the theatre industry.

Finally, the visit concluded at Northvolt, where CEO Peter Carlsson gave the Crown Princess and the Governor an account of the efforts the company made to adapt to the work environment changes the pandemic created and what the company did to preserve and safeguard the health of its employees.

This was not the first nor will it be the last visit that a member of the Royal Family makes to different areas and counties of Sweden; the full calendar of this “post-pandemic tour” can be found at the end of the Court’s website entry for this visit.
