Cheers for the King of Sweden as he makes a Jubilee balcony appearance

King Carl XVI Gustaf has been cheered by big crowds as he made a balcony appearance in Stockholm to mark his Golden Jubilee.

The Swedish monarch stood alongside his immediate family for the celebration which came as he inspected the guard at the Royal Palace.

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia were joined by their three children, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine, for the balcony appearance. Victoria’s husband, Prince Daniel, who celebrates his 50th birthday on Jubilee day was also there.

As the festivities continued, other royals joined the balcony party. King Harald of Norway, who has experienced mobility issues, sat for the appearance. Queen Sonja of Norway was also there as were Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.

Earlier, the King, along with Prince Carl Philip, had inspected the guard before joining the balcony party.

First thing on Jubilee day, September 15th 2023, they had all attended a Te Deum in thanks for the reign of King Carl XVI Gustaf at the Castle Church.

The Jubilee king appeared emotional during the service which came exactly half a century from the time he took the throne on the death of his grandfather, King Gustav VI Adolf.

Carl Gustaf is the only King of Sweden to have ever celebrated a Golden Jubilee.
