Spain’s King Felipe VI is now in quarantine after coming in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. The King went into quarantine yesterday after coming in contact with the person on Sunday.
Casa Real did not make the identity of the person with COVID public for privacy reasons. The person tested positive on Monday and then notified the King, who went into quarantine.
Casa Real said that His Majesty had “close contact” with the infected person, and according to health guidelines, Felipe would have been closer than two metres to the person for longer than 15 minutes. Casa Real would not reveal any further information saying Sunday’s encounter was from Felipe’s personal calendar.
King Felipe will be in quarantine for 10 days, and as such, his engagements for the next few days have been cancelled.
Queen Letizia and the couple’s two daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta SofÃa are not in quarantine and are continuing their normal activities. However, Queen Letizia has already had to quarantine earlier this year after coming in contact with the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, who tested positive for COVID-19. Princess Leonor also had to quarantine for a time after a classmate tested positive for the virus.
King Felipe is not the only monarch currently in quarantine as King Harald of Norway and his wife, Queen Sonja are in isolation after a member of their staff was diagnosed with the coronavirus.
