Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s Fashion Hits of 2024

Crown Princess Mette-Marit loves pastels, floral patterns, long sleeved dresses and princess gowns and she made sure to hit every single one of her style musts this year! As the curtain closes on 2024, let’s take a look back at some of her sartorial hits this year.

Regal red in new official portraits

The Norwegian Royal Court surprised us all with new official portraits of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit on 18 April.

In the stunning set of photographs, Crown Princess Mette-Marit looks impossibly chic and regal in a custom Peter Dundas gown embroidered with flowers at the foot of the skirt, on the bodice and on the sleeves. Atop her head, the tiara she’s mostly widely associated with, the Diamond Daisy Bandeau.

Folkloric dressing at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony

I’m a big fan of Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s Valentino coat, which she wore to the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in December. It’s a coat she’s owned for a while but we haven’t seen it publicly in nearly a decade. This long-sleeved wool and ivory blend coat features folklore inspired stitching and embroidery and is a perfect wintery wear for one of the biggest events on the Norwegian Royal Family’s calendar.

Wearing her Hardanger Bunad on Constitution Day

I love it when the Norwegian royals dress in their bunads—the national costume of Norway—and Crown Princess Mette-Marit always starts off Constitution Day in hers as she watches the children’s parade pass in front of her house in Skaugum.

The bunad Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore this year is called a Hardanger Bunad and it was a wedding gift in 2001 from the Hardanger Council.

She wore her Hardanger Bunad again on 2 June to celebrate a millennium of Christian law in Norway.

Orchids for the Danish State Banquet

When King Frederik and Queen Mary came to Norway in mid-May, Crown Princess Mette-Marit turned up the sartorial splendour.

At the state banquet that evening, she wore a gorgeous Temperley London skirt with hand-painted orchids in stunning shades of pink paired with a white Gunhild jacket and the Amethyst tiara.

Perfectly pastel for diplomatic reception

When Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit hosted a diplomatic reception back in May, I fell in love with this floral Pia Tjelta dress. It’s so perfectly suited to Crown Princess Mette-Marit with its floral embellishments in purple, pink and blue, and I hope it’s one she keeps in regular rotation moving forward!
