Who is Princess Alexia of the Netherlands?

Princess Alexia

Princess Alexia Juliana Marcela Laurentien is the middle of the three daughters of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. She was born on the 26th June 2005, like both of her sisters in the Bronovo Hospital in The Hague. She was christened on 19 November 2005 in the Dorpskerk in Wassenaar with the late Prince Friso of Orange-Nassau, her paternal uncle; Juan Zorreguieta, maternal uncle; Queen Mathilde of Belgium (then Princess Mathilde); and Jonkvrouwe Alexandra Jankovich de Jeszenice and Jonkheer Frans Ferdinand de Beaufort – both friends of her parents – as her godparents.

She lives with her parents, and sisters; Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange and Princess Ariane at Villa Eikenhorst on the De Horsten Estate in Wassenaar. The Princess is already a keen linguist being fluent in Dutch, English and Spanish and is a keen sportswoman enjoying hockey and horse-riding.

Sadly, last year her sporting activities were curtailed after an accident during the family skiing holiday in Lech, Austria. Unfortunately, this was not the first accident during the annual skiing trip as four years earlier in 2012 Prince Friso, her uncle and godfather died following being trapped in an avalanche. However, she was able, later in the year, to go with her family to watch the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In addition to her love of sports, the Princess also enjoys singing and playing the piano. Piano playing is something which all three girls have as an interest, but only Alexia and her elder sister are the singers.

The Princess first attended Bloemcamp primary school; she followed her elder sister, and aunt, Princess Laurentien moving up to Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet in The Hague beginning in August 2017. Her Royal Highness is second in line to the Dutch throne after the Princess of Orange.
