Queen Maxima of the Netherlands is never afraid to make a statement with her clothing and it tends to pay off for her. She confidently pulls off structural, bright and bold looks that most people would hesitate to wear and she does it well. In 2024, her daytime looks dominated her wardrobe in the best way.
Massimo Dutti Checked Coat and Culottes, The Hague (May 2024)
For a visit to a transition centre in the Hague, Queen Maxima wore a bold pairing from Massimo Dutti, a checked coat with a belt at the waist and wide-legged culottes- both in a red and black check. The silhouette is not an easy one to wear but the Dutch Queen wears it with grace.

For many, the pattern would be overwhelming but Maxima kept her blouse and shoes neutral to allow the check to shine through. She has worn this pairing three times now, and it remains one of her best casual looks for daytime engagements.
Natan Exaggerated Bell-Sleeve Dress, Ermelo (June 2024)
If anyone can pull off a bold, structural silhouette, it is Queen Maxima. For a visit to Emaus College in Ermelo in June to open a new building, she turned to her favourite designer, Natan. She wore the brand’s Exaggerated Bell-Sleeve Dress in a light pink colour, allowing the statement sleeves to take the spotlight. And impressively, she played table tennis in the dress. While the original dress came in a mini-length, Maxima’s was an appropriate knee-length.

The look was completed with a large, wide-brimmed coordinating hat from Fabienne Delvigne and Natan pumps. While many royal women leave their daytime hats behind, Queen Maxima continues to show why they are the must-have accessory.
Benchellal Couture Gown, Utrecht (October 2024)
In October, the Dutch Queen opened a new exhibition at the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, the MOḌA – Moroccan Fashion Statements exhibition.

For the event, she appropriately wore a stunning couture gown from Moroccan-Dutch designer Mohamed Benchellal. She originally wore the gown in 2022 at it’s full length, but had it shortened to a midi-length for the daytime engagement. The sculptural mesh wrapped around the shoulders and waist make what would be a plain, grey gown eye-catching. She wore a matching, suede cocktail hat, Gianvito Rossi pumps, and a Valentino Rockstuf clutch in grey for a strong, monochrome look.
Once again, Queen Maxima proves the colour is not needed to make a statement.
