The Netherlands had a very successful Olympic Games in Paris, winning a record number of medals. Athletes won thirty four medals total: they earned fifteen gold medals, seven silver medals, and twelve bronze medals to place sixth on the final medal table. The country sent their largest contingent ever, with 273 athletes competing for the Netherlands.

The athletes were first honoured at a ceremony in the Glass Hall at The Hague where the government celebrated their Olympic victories.

The athletes then headed to the palace to meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima.

The Dutch king gave a heartfelt speech where he thanked athletes for all of their hard work. Both the King and the Queen of the Netherlands chatted with athletes for quite some time.
