Queen Mary’s fashion is always fun to watch because she dresses like she was born to be a queen. Let’s take a look at some of her biggest fashion hits this year!
VA-VA-VOOM IN RED!
I’m biased, this is my favourite gown Queen Mary has ever worn. As soon as she arrived at the Latvian state banquet in this Soeren Le Schmidt creation, it immediately occupied the top spot on this list. It’s regal, it’s timeless, and there’s a touch of Grace Kelly—and the deep red is perfect for Queen Mary!
THE ANCIENT JEWELLERY QUEEN MARY BROUGHT TO FINLAND
I love how autumnal and earthy this Jesper Høvring gown is, but it’s not why Queen Mary’s turn at the Finnish State Banquet made my list. It’s the ancient jewellery dating back 200 years that she chose to wear with it! Her tiara originally belonged to Queen Caroline Amalie, and was created in 1820 with stones collected from the Grand Tour of Italy. Her bracelet, from Princess Vilhelmine Marie, is nearly as old and features stones from Vesuvius. Neither one had been worn in nearly 150 years!
SUMMER STYLE ABOARD THE DANNEBROG
Just like New Year’s, it’s almost impossible to narrow down Queen Mary’s summer style when she and King Frederik tour Denmark aboard the Dannebrog. For how effervescent, timeless and chic this Prada blue and white linen blazer was during the royal couple’s visit to Frederikshavn, I’m crowning it one of the highlights of the summer tour!
QUEEN MARY SIGNALS SPRINGTIME IN PARIS
While she paid respects to French fashion, sporting Dior upon arrival for the French state visit in March, for the state banquet at the Élysée Palace, Queen Mary wore a Lasse Spangenberg Copenhagen silk Mikado skirt that channeled springtime in Paris.
STARTING THE NEW YEAR WITH A BANG!
Queen Mary always saves some of her best fashion moments for the New Year’s Levees, and with a trio of appearances to kickstart 2025, we were spoiled from the start!
I’m going to pick her gold brocade gown she wore to the New Year’s Levee on 6 January for the Supreme Court Judges, Royal Life Guards, and the Guard House Regiments. Not only is it perfectly regal, but there was a special nod towards Greenland (where she first wore the gown in 2024) in a year that wound up keeping the country in the spotlight.
QUEEN MARY’S NIGERIAN VISIT STYLE
Again, I’m hard pressed to pick a favourite look from Queen Mary’s visit to Nigeria in June. Everything was bright and colourful. Why don’t we crown the La DoubleJ floral print shirt dress the winner?
A FRINGE FASHION CHOICE FOR PRINCESS ISABELLA’S 18TH BIRTHDAY
This fringed sequin skirt from By Malene Birger is a marvel of fashion. That it exists at all, let alone has been a staple in Queen Mary’s closet is amazing. And yet, the more I look at it, the more I love it. May we see it again in 2026! (Keeping with Princess Isabella’s birthday celebrations, shoutout to her Emilia Wickstead bouclé skirt worn in Aarhus for the party there!)
