Prince William has taken Prince George to watch a crucial game for their team, Aston Villa, but it was their opponents who were really celebrating the royal supporters.
As Villa faced Barcelona FC at Camp Nou, the heir to the throne and the second in line arrived to cheer on the visitors in a crunch Champions League game.
However, it was Barcelona FC who made the most of the royal supporters, taking to social media ahead of kick off to thank Prince William for being there.
In a surprise post, the team said ”FC Barcelona is honoured to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and His Royal Highness Prince George to the Spotify Camp Nou. Thank you for joining us for a special evening of Champions League football featuring your beloved Aston Villa.”
It was Prince William who lined up for a team photo ahead of the match but it was Prince George who was the star of photos taken of the VIP box during the game.
The 13 year old followed every kick carefully although it was to be a night of disappointment for the royal fans as Aston Villa were comfortably beaten 3-0.
George, who has taken to his dad’s favourite football team with gusto, was seen chatting happily with William throughout the game. On a chilly night, father and son rested up against one another as the rain came down and the loss against one of the best teams in the world became clear.
It’s not the first time that George has gone to a Villa match with his dad – he’s been seen with him at Villa Park several times while the Wales family has also enjoyed England games together.
Princess Charlotte, 11, is known to be a big football fan, helping her father wish the Lionesses luck ahead of some of their biggest games in the European Championships and World Cup.
Prince William and Prince George are understood to have returned to the UK with the Prince of Wales joining other members of the Royal Family at the Festival of Remembrance this weekend as well as at the Cenotaph for the National Act of Remembrance.
