The Duke of Edinburgh has opened Brookes Bell’s new Liverpool office during a visit to the city.
The Duke, accompanied by the Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside Peter Oliver OBE, High Sheriff of Merseyside Hazel Snell, and Lord Mayor of Liverpool Councillor William Shorthall, unveiled a plaque at the company’s new office at No 10 Princes Dock, Princes Parade, on Thursday 24 September.
During the visit, Prince Edward met specialists from the international maritime consultancy, including Master Mariners, scientists, engineers and experts in materials testing and non-destructive testing.
The Duke heard about the company’s work handling maritime casualties, providing expert witness testimony, assisting with cargo claims and disputes, and carrying out failure and forensic investigations.
Brookes Bell has been based in Liverpool for more than 120 years, having been founded in the city in 1903.
The company’s Chief Operating Officer Anthony York said it was a “tremendous honour” to welcome the Duke to Liverpool to mark theyy opening.
“Liverpool has been our home for more than 120 years, and as we open our new office at Liverpool Waters, it is exciting to consider the next stage in Brookes Bell’s journey as we continue to support the global maritime industry with technical and scientific consultancy support,” he said.
Adrian Scales, Director of Europe and Master Mariner at Brookes Bell, said it was a “privilege” to share the company’s work with the Duke.
“He took a genuine interest in our people and their work, from our Master Mariners to our engineers and scientists,” he said.
Andrew Yarwood, Business Director at Brookes Bell, said the new office’s location placed the company “right at the heart of the Mersey maritime community”.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s visit formed part of two days of engagements across Merseyside focused on the region’s maritime establishments.
