European capital city to be ”brought to a standstill’ by royal wedding

The capital city of a tiny European country is getting ready for the biggest event it has seen in years.

As August comes to an end, Vaduz will play host to the wedding of a princess and the little capital is gearing up for a grand party.

The princess in question is pretty much unknown outside Liechtenstein where her family reign. Princess Maria Carolina is the granddaughter of the country’s ruler, Prince Hans Adam II. She will marry Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer in Vaduz, a year after they announced their engagement.

Princess Maria Carolina is expected to arrive on the arm of her father, Hereditary Prince Alois, who actually holds day to day power in Liechtenstein although his father remains ruler in name.

The royal wedding is set to take place at St. Florin’s Cathedral in Vaduz with a reception at the castle in the capital to follow.

And with just weeks to go until the big day, Liechtenstein’s royals have put out a message saying that they welcome wellwishers at the event but people are warned about disruption to traffic as security and logistics are put in place for the wedding.

Maria Carolina is the only daughter of Alois and his wife, Sophie. Her three brothers all have succession rights in Liechtenstein but Maria Carolina doesn’t as women are barred from inheriting the throne.

The princess was educated in Vaduz and Switzerland as well as at Malvern College and went on to graduate from Parsons School of Design.

The royal wedding takes place on August 30 2025.
