The King and David Beckham laugh and joke ahead of exciting announcement

Sir David Beckham talks with King Charles at Buckingham Palace

King Charles and David Beckham were seen laughing and joking together during a reception at St James’s Palace on Thursday – just a day before a major announcement is expected.

In what could be the worst kept secret of 2025, it is expected that Beckham will be named in the King’s Birthday Honours list this week, with the former footballer set to receive a knighthood.

But before all that, the dynamic duo of Charles and Beckham were working together on Thursday during an awards ceremony at the palace.

The England star was in attendance for The King’s Foundation Awards Ceremony – an event that is also celebrating the foundation’s 35th anniversary.

Other famous faces to appear at the reception included beloved gardener and BBC presenter Alan Titchmarsh, and actors Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet.

The King stopped to talk to the footballing legend at the event.

The two men have struck up an unlikely partnership over the years, with Beckham being named an ambassador for The King’s Foundation in 2024.

Over the past few months he has and has attended several events with The King, including the Chelsea Flower Show.

Beckham is no stranger to a big royal event. He and his wife, Victoria, were invited to the 2011 wedding of Prince William and the then-Catherine Middleton, as well as Prince Harry’s 2018 marriage to Meghan Markle.
