
Nerves got the better of Wimbledon champion, Carlos Alcaraz, as he stepped up to receive the trophy on Centre Court. The Spanish star ended up bowing twice to the Princess of Wales.
Alcaraz, 21, won his second consecutive title in straight sets, defeating Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. And the Princess received two consecutive bows from the champion as he walked forward for the presentation.
Catherine smiled as Alcaraz made his second bow. She offered warm congratulations as she handed over the famous golden trophy. He later said in his post match interview that he was feeling nervous at the presentation.
Earlier, she had commiserated with Djokovic who was later full of praise for the champion.
The Princess of Wales was cheered as she stepped on to Centre Court for the presentation. As she arrived for the final, there were huge cheers and a prolonged standing ovation.
This is the first time this year that Catherine, who is Patron of the All England Club, has been able to attend. The Princess of Wales announced in March that she is being treated for cancer.
Before the Men’s final got under way, the Princess met the women’s champion, Barbora Krejčíková, who showed Princess Charlotte the trophy she had won the day before.
Also with the two princesses was Catherine’s sister, Pippa Matthews.
The Prince of Wales wasn’t in attendance. He was on his way to Berlin where he will watch England play Spain in the final of the Euros.
