Queen Máxima of the Netherlands has responded, through her spokesperson, to accusations of tax evasion in her home country of Argentina saying she “respects” Argentian laws.
The Dutch Government Information Service (RVD) has responded to the claims.
Her Majesty’s spokesperson said, “Queen Máxima respects Argentina’s laws and rules. This is also what has been declared to us by local authorities in Argentina.”
Queen Máxima has been accused of tax evasion in the Argentinan media on 3000 hectares of land near the border with Chile in her name. The website El cohete a la luna has made the claims.
Back in 2009, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima bought several plots of land in the Río Negro province located roughly 70 kilometres from the ski resort Bariloche in Patagonia.
They have been accused of not reporting improvements made to the area and as such, have not been paying the corresponding taxes.
However, the media has also stated that Her Majesty is not alone in not reporting improvements to the land she owns, as many in the province do the same.
The Queen’s maternal aunt, Marta Marcela Cerruti Carricart, runs a bed and breakfast on part of the estate La Estancia Pilpilcura.
Some in Dutch politics have expressed their concerns regarding the reports. Attje Kuiken, a Labour Party member of the Dutch House of Representatives, has said, “We see that the richest people in the world try in every way possible to contribute as little as possible to our society, our real family should not be like them, but set a good example, I want an immediate clarification from the Prime Minister about what is happening.”
Several other politicians have also asked for clarification.
