Queen’s horse Estimate finished second in Royal Ascot Gold Cup

It was one of the most pulsating finishes in Royal Ascot history, four horses were battling to the finish line in the Gold Cup but The Queen’s horse estimate finished in 2nd place and lost by a nose to Leading Light.

The Queen looked on in the Royal Box alongside her racing manager John Warren as Estimate crossed the line; hoping that Estimate would win for the second year in a row.

John Warren explained after the race “with such little preparation, Estimate ran one of the best races of her life. The Queen took great pleasure watching the race.”

This is only Estimate’s second race since she won the Gold Cup last year due to a muscle injury. At 8-1, she was the 3rd favourite to win this prestigious race.

Last year, history was made when Her Majesty became the first reigning monarch to win the race. Before 2013, it was one of the few races the 88-year-old monarch had not won.

The Queen presented the trophy to the winning horse’s connections. Last year, because of Estimate’s win, The Duke of York had to take Her Majesty’s place to present the trophy to her.
