Friends to the rescue! Priyanka Chopra defends the Duchess of Sussex

Since marrying Prince Harry last spring, the Duchess of Sussex has been subject to racism in the media. While the Duchess comes from a mixed heritage background, her friend and Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra insists the Duchess can handle it.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, Chopra discussed her three-year-long friendship with the Duchess and the effortless connection the two have. The two first met when they bonded at an ELLE Women in Television event in January of 2016.  From there, the two have remained close ever since.

Meghan comes from a mixed heritage household. Her mother is black, and her father is white. While the Duchess can be subject to racism, Chopra knows that Meghan has what it takes to overcome any media criticism.

“I’ve seen that, and it’s really unfortunate. But if there’s anyone who can handle it, it’s her.”

Chopra went on to add – “Of course it has to do with racism, it’s an obvious reason.  But the beauty of Meg is that she’s been herself through all of this.  A lot of people got to know her after everything, but I knew her before, and she’s the same chick.”

Chopra went on to comment about how the two connected over their similarities with how they see the world and their outlook on feminism.

“It was just an easy, natural progression.  We’ve managed to keep in touch via email and text, and try to see each other whenever we’re both in the same town.”

While the two are busy with their own paths, Chopra did make an appearance for last year’s royal wedding. However, Meghan did not make it to Chopra’s wedding when she married singer Nick Jonas last year. While Chopra was unable to make Meghan’s New York baby shower, the actress says the two are just fine and remain close friends.
