Prince Welf August of Hanover christened

Hereditary Prince Ernst August of Hanover and Princess Ekaterina of Hanover have baptised their second child, Prince Welf August over the weekend. The 2-month-old Prince’s royal godparents were also present for the christening.

Hereditary Prince Ernst August and Princess Ekaterina of Hanover welcomed their second child on the 14th of March 2019. Two months later the couple has decided to christen their son and an intimate christening ceremony was held at Marienburg Castle in Hanover over the weekend.

In addition to the proud parents and big sister Princess Elisabeth of Hanover, the godparents of Welf August were also in attendance. Among the godparents is also a royal; Princess Olympia of Greece and Denmark, daughter of Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, has been chosen to be the godmother. She posted a picture of herself and Princess Ekaterina of Hanover on Instagram with the caption: “I’m with Godson (not pictured)”.

The godfather is also not a stranger; Julio Santo Domingo, brother of Tatiana Casiraghi (née Santo Domingo) who married Princess Caroline of Hanover’s son Andrea Casiraghi, has received this honour. Julio Mario Santo Domingo is an heir to one of the world’s largest beer fortunes according to Forbes.

Hereditary Prince Ernst August and Princess Ekaterina of Hanover married in a civil ceremony on 6 July 2017 at the New Town Hall in Hanover. The festivities continued on 8 July 2017 as their Lutheran wedding ceremony took place at the market Church of Saints George and James. Family guests included Ernst’s younger brother Prince Christian and his wife Allesandra de Osama, Ernst’s stepsiblings Andrea, Charlotte and Pierre Casiraghi with their partners, half-sister Princess Alexandra of Hanover and so on.

On 22 February 2018, the couple had their first child, a daughter named Princess Elisabeth. Only a year later, the couple’s son Prince Welf August was born on 14 March 2019.

Hereditary Prince Ernst August’s father would be King of Hanover today if the Kingdom had not been annexed by Prussia in 1866.
