'The Heart of a King' – authorised biography of Prince Charles set for 2015

<![CDATA[Following a hugely successful cover story about Prince Charles for Time Magazine, British-American journalist Catherine Mayer has another set of stories about The Prince in the works. Only this time, it isn’t just an article – it’s Prince Charles’s biography.
This new biography about the much documented Prince of Wales will hit the shelves on the 5th of February, 2015. Charles: The Heart of a King, as it is called, documents the life of the longest serving heir apparent to the British throne. The biography ‘reveals Prince Charles in all his complexity’ and gives a detailed insight into The Prince’s two marriages – the first to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, and the second to Camilla, who Charles describes as his “dearest wife”.
The book also promises to deal with His Royal Highness’s passions for art, architecture, preservation and gardening, amongst others. The author draws a comparison between Prince Charles and his mother, The Queen, and highlights his personal successes and achievements during a lifetime of Royal duties and engagements. Readers will also get a glimpse of Prince Charles like they have never seen him before – as a joker, a thinker, a friend, and a father.
Writing Charles: The Heart of a King meant a year of doing research for Ms. Mayer, who spoke to Charles’s friends (including the most ardent fan of The Prince’s dancing skills, Emma Thompson), Palace insiders and even spent time with The Prince of Wales himself. Mayer’s book has been researched and written with the Prince Charles’s knowledge and permission, and will be published by WH Allen in the UK.
However, Royal watchers from America need not despair. Henry Holt and Company have recently purchased the rights to the book, a slightly shorter version of which will be published in the USA next February, but with a different cover and under the title, Born to Be King: Prince Charles on Planet Windsor.
