This will be the couple’s first tour since the 3rd in line to the
throne was born in July. It will also be just over 30 years since
Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited Australia with Prince
William in 1983.
One major issue that needs to be resolved is what will happen in
terms of accommodation for 9 month old George who, on his first
tour, needs to be cared for whilst his parents carry out their busy
schedule. Royal aides are expected to fly over to Australia
sometime this month to finalise the arrangements for the month long
stay.
Prince George is widely expected to join his parents on this trip,
although this has not officially been confirmed by Clarence
House.
On Charles and Diana’s 1983 trip to Australia and New Zealand,
Prince William was slightly younger than what Prince George will be
when he travels.
The couple stayed at Woomargama Homestead near Albury in New South
Wales. Prince William was said to have taken his first steps within
this accommodation.
The visit is expected to cause a large presence of both the public
and the media who want to take a glimpse of George. As of yet,
little has been seen of him. When asked at Sandringham this
Christmas, the Duchess told well wishes that the future king was at
home “enjoying his first Christmas”.
The Times’ royal correspondent Valentine Low said “William
and Kate are very keen to protect their privacy and also that of
George and they will probably allow George to be seen once or
twice, as Charles and Diana did with William. Apart from that,
he’ll be kept somewhere out of public eye.”
