<![CDATA[Five year old Isabelle Nixon got an unexpected
lift from Prince Harry yesterday, and was carried on his
shoulders at the Invictus Games closing ceremony.
Isabelle’s father, Adam, participated in Harry’s
inaugural Invictus Games, after losing a leg serving in Iraq, and
began playing wheelchair basketball with a local team. The Royal
encounter came after Mr Nixon captained the UK wheelchair
basketball team to a gold medal during the Games against the
USA: “It was phenomenal,” Adam Nixon said of the team’s
success.
The Nixon family were there for the Closing Ceremony, after at
which the Foo Fighters performed and during the ceremony, the
youngster was pictured atop the Prince’s shoulders, wearing ear
defenders.
Harry gave Isabelle a hug earlier on in the evening, and the
5-year-old was recognised by him a little later on in the night,
explained Mr Nixon to the Hereford Times. Harry simply
picked her up and put her on his shoulders, strolling through the
crowds – ‘surreal’ was how Adam described it.
Taryn Nixon, the youngster’s mother, said her daughter now felt
like a Princess after her encounter with Harry, who looked
more than comfortable with Isabelle. The Prince is known to be
great with kids, no doubt his experience with young nephew Prince
George has only enhanced these skills.
He has also been pictured with brother William, holding a baby
wearing an ‘I AM THE INVICTUS BABY’ T-shirt. Harry successfully
organised and hosted the Games in London, and has shown the
world what an asset he is to The Royal Family and his dedication
and passion for the causes he champions.
