No luck for those hoping for a replica of Meghan Markle’s engagement ring

If you were hoping to purchase a replica of the engagement ring Prince Harry presented to Meghan Markle, you’re out of luck. Cleave and Company, the designers of the jewel, won’t be recreating the now famous ring Meghan showed off during the photocall and engagement interview.

It’s been nearly two weeks since Clarence House announced the engagement between Prince Harry and U.S. actress, Meghan Markle. As with the engagement announcement between Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2010, much interest has been shown in Meghan’s ring. Stephen Connelly, Director of Cleave and Company, told the Associated Press that the company has received intense attention from the media. It has been: “a bit of a shock.” He added: “We’re not going to be making replicas of it. If you want a ring, then we’ll design you a different one.”

For the ring, Harry sourced a diamond from Botswana, a place that is very dear to Meghan and himself. The couple revealed early on in their relationship that they went camping together for a week in the African country.

The two other diamonds Harry used for the yellow-gold ring belonged to his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales and were from her personal collection. He wanted to incorporate them so his mother could be, “on this crazy journey together.”

David Thomas, a former Crown Jeweler who looked after the Royal Family’s jewels now works with Cleave and Company. He said working on the engagement ring was the biggest and hardest secret he’s had to keep in his life. The press has demanded of him to divulge the cost of the ring, but he refuses to violate the couple’s privacy saying, “Jewelers are like doctors: we never discuss our patients!”

Harry and Meghan will be married in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in May 2018. The exact day of the wedding will be announced shortly, with many guessing the end of May.
