There was a tiara treat as the most recent State Visit continued as the Duchess of Gloucester wore one of her prettiest diadems for a spectacular dinner.
As is traditional on the second day of a State Visit, the Lord Mayor of the City of London s hosted the Macrons at Guildhall for a gala dinner. The Guildhall is a building that dates back to the mid-fifteenth century and is the ceremonial centre of the City of London.Â
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester represented the Royal Family at the dinner, and the Duchess chose an appropriately ornate tiara for the evening.Â
The Duchess inherited a very healthy jewellery collection from her mother-in-law, Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester. And that collection includes the Gloucester Honeysuckle Tiara.Â
Queen Mary originally commissioned this diamond, honeysuckle motif tiara from E. Wolff & Co. in the mid 1910s using diamonds from another tiara. Mary wore the tiara with the Cullinan V Diamond as the central stone, as well as a round sapphire.
Queen Mary chose to give the tiara to Lady Alice Douglas Montaguu Scott in 1935 when she married her son, Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester. And the new Duchess of Gloucester took to the Honeysuckle Tiara and wore it frequently- it can be spotted in photographs of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth’s 1937 coronation.
In 1953, the then-Princess Alice inherited the topaz stone we see today upon Queen Mary’s death. She wore the tiara with several different stones, depending on what other gems she was wearing.Â
For her latest wear, the Duchess of Gloucester chose the beautiful pink topaz setting of the tiara; she highlighted the topaz with a stunning topaz and diamond necklace.Â
