Politicians told in advance of return to public events by the Princess of Wales

The decision of The Princess of Wales to attend Trooping the Colour was revealed to political parties in the UK ahead of the official announcement.

As the UK is in the midst of a General Election campaign, with voters heading to the ballot box on July 4th 2024, royal officials let politicians know before the public.

Both Number 10 Downing Street and the Cabinet Office were told that The Princess would be at The King’s Official Birthday Parade, hours before Kensington Palace made the announcement.

Number 10 and the Cabinet Office then briefed other political parties before the news was made public.

The Princess has been receiving preventative chemotherapy for several months after cancer cells were found following major abdominal surgery in January.

As Kensington Palace confirmed Her Royal Highness would be at Trooping, a new image was released, showing Catherine in the woods at Windsor. It was taken by Matt Porteous.

The Princess also issued a statement in which she said she had been ‘’blown away’’ by the support she had received since announcing she was being treated for cancer. She said she had ‘’good days and bad days’’ but was learning to be patient as she continued her recovery.
