The Duke of
Edinburgh has undergone minor surgery on his right hand at
Buckingham Palace yesterday, officials say.
The news was announced as the Duke emerged for the first garden
party of the year at the Palace this afternoon with a bandaged
right hand, which officials say is for ‘protection’ of the Duke’s
hand.
Despite the surgery, the palace says the Duke of Edinburgh will be
continuing with his diary of engagements as anticipated and that
the surgery was only a ‘minor procedure’.
On a visit to a medical centre today, the bandage was clearly
visible on the Duke’s hand which led the palace to giving the
information shortly after 4 o’clock when the Duke emerged for the
garden party.
His Royal Highness is set to attend at dinner as patron of
the Guild of Air Pilots and Air
Navigators this evening at Mansion House, though is not set to
carry out any more engagements until next Wednesday when he’ll join
The Queen and other members of the Royal Family on Horse Guards
Parade for the presentation of new colours to the Household Cavalry
Regiment.
The Royal Household are naturally reticent to release any more
information on the Duke’s ailment and it’s likely that this will be
the the only information we’re given, at least at this stage.
Prince Philip will celebrate his 93rd birthday next month.
He will join The Queen and other senior members of the Royal Family
in Normandy for commemorations for the D-day landings and also for
a state visit to France on 5th-7th June.]]>
