King Charles III

King Charles and Prince Edward together at event that Queen Elizabeth II loved

King Charles and his younger brother, the Duke of Edinburgh, were at the Royal Windsor Horse Show at Windsor Castle to enjoy one of the major spring events on the royal calendar.

The Royal Windsor Horse Show was first held in 1943 to help raise money for the war efforts and King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, and the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret enjoyed the one day event. It became immediately popular with more days added; by 1977, it was the five-day competition we now know.

The show became a favourite event for the late Queen Elizabeth II.  At her last show in 2022, her horse, Balmoral Leia, was declared supreme champion.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh attended every day of this year’s event – the Duke is the President and the Duchess is the Vice-President.

King Charles arrived for his visit with his younger brother with a stylish pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses to compliment his relaxed checked suit. He wore a bright blue cornflower, one of his favourites, as a button hole.

The royal brothers looked to enjoy themselves at the horse show, enjoying several events together.

However, things did get a bit tense during a cross-country race when a racing carriage collided with a gatepost. Both the driver and the horses were uninjured.
