Sarah, Duchess of York has been welcomed into the royal box at Ascot as a special guest of Her Majesty The Queen. The Duchess was joined by her daughter Princess Beatrice and her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York. Sarah was last seen joining the Royal Family for the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex last month.
After her marriage into the Royal Family in 1986 at Westminster
Abbey, the Duchess spent six years as a civil list working royal,
before being placed on what one would call a “leave” from royal
duties after her separation in 1992. The Duke and Duchess divorced
in 1996. Like the Princess of Wales after her divorce, Sarah was
entitled to keep “Duchess of York” as a courtesy title. The couple
have two children together, Princess Beatrice of York, and Princess
Eugenie of York. Although divorced, the couple have remained
incredibly close and been totally unified in the upbringing of
their children.

The Duchess’s career as a royal and ex-royal have been plagued by
controversy and scandal. An extramarital affair revealed in the
tabloids led to her separation from Prince Andrew in 1992, and a
tabloid sting damaged her reputation again in 2010 as she was seen
on camera supposedly selling access to the Duke of York. It seems
even through all the strife, the Duke and Duchess have remained a
strong and united unit for the York family.
After her separation from Prince Andrew in 1992, Sarah has been
scarcely seen in royal circles. In fact, one of the only times
(apart from the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales and The Queen
Mother) she has appeared at the same event as the entire Royal
Family is the wedding of Prince Harry last month. Many believe her
reappearance in royal circles may be due to the Duke of Edinburgh’s
fading out of royal circles. He is said to have a low tolerance of
his former daughter-in-law.

Regardless, it was a wonderful sight to see the Duchess enjoying
some time with her family and sharing some laughs with The Queen at
Royal Ascot.
What the future holds for the Duchess of York, we have yet to see.
