The Prince and Princess of Wales have followed the lead of King Charles III at a moment of history.

William and Kate met the new Archbishop of Canterbury, the day after Dame Sarah Mullally had been received by The King.

She is the first woman to hold the role of Archbishop of Canterbury.

The new head of the Church of England welcomed the heir to the throne, in line to be Supreme Governor of the church one day, to Lambeth Palace, her official residence.

William and Kate walked through the historic corridors of the palace with the new Archbishop with the Prince of Wales offering his congratulations on her new role.

The visit followed the meeting between King Charles and the Archbishop of Canterbury in which Dame Sarah paid homage to His Majesty as Supreme Governor of the Church of England.

Today’s meeting saw the Archbishop host the Prince and Princess at her new office and residence. During their meeting, the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Archbishop of Canterbury talked about the contribution of churches around the country to their local communities. They also discussed the work William and Kate do through their Royal Foundation.

Speaking afterwards, the Archbishop of Canterbury said ”t was a privilege to welcome the Prince and Princess of Wales to Lambeth Palace today. I know we hold the same hope for a better world and I look forward to working together in the years to come.”

And she added ”I will continue to hold them and their family in my prayers.”

Sarah Mullally was officially confirmed as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury at St. Paul’s Cathedral last week.

As she met the Prince and Princess of Wales, the royal guest list for her Installation as Archbishop of Canterbury was confirmed.

Prince William will be at Canterbury Cathedral for the service, representing King Charles III.
