Sources close to the Princess Royal have dismissed about the idea of retirement as Her Royal Highness approaches her 75th birthday.
According to The Sunday Times, the Princess will carry on with business as usual for the next few years.
When she turns 80-years-old, she will “start winding down a bit,” before completely retiring at the age of 90.
The Princess has declined to give any media interviews to mark her milestone birthday, but it is understood that the Sunday Times source is closely connected to HRH.
They said: “She has said her plan is to push on (with work) until she is 80, then start winding down a bit, and then copy the (late) Duke of Edinburgh and wind down completely at 90.”
Princess Anne remains one of the hardest working members of The Royal Family, with the King’s sister carrying out hundreds of engagements per year.
Following in her father, Prince Philip’s footsteps, HRH intends to carry on working for another 15 years.
Prince Philip retired in 2017 at the age 96.
The source told The Times: “The head of state has to go on but the princess is in a position where she can wind down and say, ‘I’ve done my bit’, just like the Duke of Edinburgh did.”
Princess Anne will turn 75-years-old on August 15.
To mark the occasion, a specially commissioned coin has been released by The Royal Mint.
The release of the coin is the only public commemoration that will take place to mark the milestone birthday.
HRH has declined media interviews and portraits, instead hosting a reception at Buckingham Palace in June attended by representatives from over 100 charities supported by the princess.
Addressing the attendees, her private secretary, Colonel John Boyd, said he understood there had been “a significant amount of interest” in his the milestone birthday; which she will celebrate on August 15.
He said: “As you are aware, the princess has given decades of time and support to more than 400 charities and patronages.
“It probably won’t come as a surprise, given HRH’s commitment to you all, that the way the princess wants to celebrate this milestone is to replicate what she’s done on previous significant birthdays and hold this charities forum… to once again understand how she can help you, at a time when the third sector is facing unprecedented challenges and transformations.”
Princess Anne affirmed this, saying: “You very kindly asked me to become patron of your organisations, so it’s an honour for me to have all of you here.”
