The Prince of Wales told stunned passers by that one of the biggest names in radio was ”hallucinating” as the two joined forces for a very special reason.
Prince William met up with BBC Radio 1 star, Greg James, as the presenter attempts to cycle 1,000 kilometres across England, Scotland and Wales to raise funds for Comic Relief.
Greg James, who presents the flagship breakfast show, is riding a tandem along his epic route and is being joined by famous faces along the way. On today’s list were Tour de France winner, Geraint Thomas, and top comedian, Joe Lycett. However, the biggest name had been kept secret from Greg James.
He appeared totally stunned when Prince William walked up to reveal he was the latest person help on the epic cycle run.
The royal reveal came as Greg James made an unexpected detour to a truck stop. He said he didn’t know what to expect but he certainly didn’t expect his new companion to be the heir to the throne.
And as the two pedalled through South Yorkshire, his amazement continued to show as he kept shouting to passers by that he had Prince William on the tandem alongside him.
The future king decided he hadn’t had enough fun for the day. As Greg James told one group of supporters that Prince William was his fundraising partner, the heir to the throne said ”he is hallucinating”.
The two began their journey outside Doncaster and joked all the way along their half hour cycle together.
And Prince William brought more smiles as their time came to an end, as he was able to tell Greg James that he has so far raised in excess of £1 million for Comic Relief.
The Radio 1 star was full of praise for Prince William, saying that ”I’ve got so many flies in my mouth because I’ve been cycling with my mouth wide open. All our jaws are on the floor from how mad that all was.”
William had already joined in the fundraiser, dubbed Radio 1’s Longest Ride with Greg James for Red Nose Day, by sending a message of support as the quest got under way.
