The Duchess of Kent has died at the age of 92

The Duchess of Kent

Buckingham Palace has announced the death of the Duchess of Kent.

In a statement, the Palace said: “It is with deep sorrow that Buckingham Palace announces the death of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent.

“Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family.”

The Palace will provide details of her funeral in the coming days, and an online condolence book will be launched on the Royal Family’s website for people around the world to share their memories of the late royal.

The Duchess of Kent, born Katharine Worsley, married the Duke of Kent in 1961 and quickly became a beloved member of the Royal Family. In 2002, she decided to step back from royal duties and stop using the style of Her Royal Highness, preferring simply to be known as Katharine Kent and working as a music teacher.

Buckingham Palace concluded their statement: “The King and Queen and all Members of The Royal Family join The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss and remembering fondly The Duchess’s life-long devotion to all the organisations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.”

The Duchess of Kent was 92 years old.
