Prince Harry remains keen for his children to spend more time with King Charles III and it’s now reported that Sandringham is being talked about as a possible destination for such a reunion.
The Sunday Times reports that a friend of Harry’s is suggesting that an invitation from King Charles to the Sussexes to visit the Norfolk estate would lead to the enhanced security for a trip that the family has been asking for.
Prince Harry is currently awaiting the outcome of a review into his security arrangements by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, known as Ravec. It is tasked with making the final decision on the level of security given to people including Harry. He asked for the review after losing a long legal case with the government over the level of security he receives when in the UK.
Currently, Prince Harry funds his own security when in the country and relies on unarmed protection personnel. He wants the level of protection he had while still a working member of the Royal Family and says it isn’t safe to bring his wife and children to the country without it.
Now, a friend of Prince Harry has suggested that if The King were to invite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex along with Prince Archie and Princess Lillibet to the country, they would get the level of protection that they feel is needed.
And it’s been suggested that a stay at Charles III’s Norfolk home, Sandringham, would be the ideal place for such a visit to take place.
Sandringham is the private property of the Monarch. It was bought by the future Edward VII in the 19th century and has since been left by each Monarch to the person who succeeds them although it is a personal gift rather than part of the Crown Estate. That means it is up to the Monarch who lives there and on the properties within the wider estate.
The former prince Andrew is currently moving into a home on the Sandringham estate having surrendered his lease on Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate. He had lived in the thirty room mansion for over twenty years on a peppercorn rent. He agreed to surrender the lease at the same time that Charles III stripped him of all his titles and royal honours. Since then, he has been known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and removed from all aspects of royal life although he remains in the line of succession.
King Charles often spends weekends at Sandringham while the Prince and Princess of Wales have a home at nearby Anmer Hall, given to them by Queen Elizabeth II.
The Sunday Times now quotes a friend of Harry saying ”if he was invited by The King, he would get a package of security that automatically kicks in. He’d like an invite to Sandringham. Would he go? It would depend who was there.”
Prince Harry spent just under an hour with King Charles in September 2025 when he was in London. It’s understood the two men haven’t met since then.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex live in California with their two children. They settled there after giving up their roles as working royals in 2020. In recent weeks, the departure of the Sussexes from royal life and the subsequent fall out including interviews they have given and TV programmes they have made, has been highlighted in two new books. In one, Hugo Vickers wrote that Queen Elizabeth II encouraged Prince Harry to wait at least a year before marrying Meghan Markle but he chose to act differently. He also writes that calls by Prince William for Harry to wait before marrying were one of the reasons the brothers had initially fallen out.
