Millions of people across the UK are expected to celebrate the Coronation with a street party.
Tens of thousands of events are set to bring people together on May 7th 2023, the day after King Charles III and Queen Camilla are crowned at Westminster Abbey.
The parties will be organised by the Big Lunch project – Queen Camilla is its patron. It’s based at the Eden Project in Cornwall.
The Big Lunch takes place annually to bring communities together to share food and company. It’s supported by the National Lottery and aims to boost community spirit, reduce loneliness and support charities and good causes.
The Big Lunch has been linked to major royal events before, most recently for the Platinum Jubilee last year. In 2022, the Big Lunch raised £22 million for charity.
The Coronation Big Lunch organisers are offering plenty of support to those wanting to hold a celebration in May. Resources and ideas are available at the special website www.CoronationBigLunch.com.
Although May 7th will be the main day for street parties, community celebrations are expected to take place across Coronation weekend which runs from May 6th to May 8th 2023.
