Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden takes lead as her royal family invest in the power of the sea

The Swedish Royal Family have taken to the proverbial seas with King Carl Gustaf awarding the prestigious Stockholm Water Prize and Crown Princess Victoria keeping busy for World Water Week.

King Carl Gustaf presented Professor Günter Blöschl with the 2025 Stockholm Water Prize for his groundbreaking work on the effects of climate change on flood risks. Queen Silvia joined the king for the Ceremony at Stockholm City Hall.

Crown Princess Victoria awarded the 2025 Junior Stockholm Water Prize. The competition is aimed at young people between fifteen and twenty. This year’s prize went to Niklas Ruf and Jana Spiller for their work on scalable flood warnings.

The Swedish royals usually put a big focus on World Water Week and it was Crown Princess Victoria who took the lead this time round. She visited a wastewater treatment plant and a phosphorus treatment plant to learn more about current processes.

Her support then took her to a more elegant affair, though as she attended the Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm for the opening night. The festival features classical musicians, and the 2025 theme is waves.

The concert was led by the Elbphilharmonie Orchestra playing pieces from Bruchs and Brahms.

Crown Princess Victoria has attended several water-related events this year, including the United Nations Ocean Conference 2025 and the Blue Economy Finance Forum in June.
