Princess Marie watches cooking competition

Princess Marie of Denmark travelled from Paris to Lyon, in the South of France, to attend the 2023 edition of the Bocuse d’Or cooking competition.

On Monday, 23rd January, the Princess made the trip, together with the Danish Ambassador to France, Michael Starbæk Christiansen, to support Danish chef Brian Mark Hansen, who is competing with his assistant, Elisabeth Madsen.

The duo won the European Championship competition in 2022 and were qualified to compete in the World Championship segment of the competition for 2023.

The theme for this year’s edition of Bocuse d’Or is “Feed the kids”; all the chefs will have to dedicate one of the steps of the competition to preparing “healthy food for children, using marrow and eggs as raw materials.”

Prince Carl Philip of Sweden was also in attendance.

Princess Marie has long been active in the food sector, both with campaigns to feed the hungry through her many charities and with one of the first royal-championed projects to prevent food waste.

The Princess has strong ties with France, as she was born in Paris. In 2020, her family moved back to the country, after Prince Joachim was selected to be the military attaché for the Danish Embassy in Paris.

Since then, Princess Marie has also begun her activity as a cultural representative within the context of the Embassy, as well as carrying out activities with the organisations she was working already prior to the family’s move to France.

Recently, Prince Joachim’s family was involved in a big controversy, following Queen Margrethe’s decision to remove all titles from the children.

Since 1st January, all four of Prince Joachim’s children are no longer styled as “Highnesses,” but rather as “Excellencies,” and they are no longer Princes and Princess, but only “Count/-ess of Monpezat.”
