It was a very different National Day for Belgium’s Royal Family
today. A day of celebration became a moment for commemoration as
King Philippe, Queen Mathilde and their children paid tribute to
those who have lost their lives to coronavirus and to those who
have worked over the past months to fight the disease and support
others. Masks and social distancing replaced the celebratory aspect
of previous years while King Philippe had high praise for the way
the country has worked together to overcome recent difficulties. It
was a day of poignant and powerful images – here are some of the
best from Belgium’s National Day 2020.
