Queen Camilla plans to be fully involved in State Visit of Donald Trump despite illness

Buckingham Palace says The Queen should be well enough to take part in the State Visit of the US President Donald Trump.

Queen Camilla is still expected to be at the side of King Charles for the official ceremonies involved in the State Visit which starts on September 17 despite being forced to miss a significant family event just hours before.

The day before the historic trip was due to get under way, Her Majesty unexpectedly withdrew from attendance at the funeral of the Duchess of Kent after developing acute sinusitis.

Although the State Visit is short, The King and Queen have a busy time ahead as more pageantry and ceremonial events are planned for this than any previous similar trip.

Queen Camilla is set to join King Charles for the official welcome that begins every State Visit. They are due to greet President Trump and his wife, Melania, inside the Windsor estate. The Prince and Princess of Wales will escort the US leader to the ceremony.

The pomp and pageantry includes a carriage procession through the Windsor estate to Windsor Castle where the President and The King are due to inspect a Guard of Honour. Afterwards, King Charles and Queen Camilla are due to host a lunch for the US leader and his wife with most of the Royal Family in attendance.

The later part of the first day will see the King and Queen accompany Donald and Melania Trump to a Beating the Retreat ceremony and a flypast by the Red Arrows.

Queen Camilla is then set to help The King host the State Banquet, one of the most important in recent years as the British government hopes that this historic visit will cement ties with the US at a crucial time.

The Queen is said to be resting at Windsor having travelled there from Scotland.
