Lady Sarah Chatto represents The Queen at the funeral of Lady Elizabeth Cavendish

The Queen’s niece, Lady Sarah Chatto, represented Her Majesty at the funeral of Lady Elizabeth Cavendish on Thursday in Derbyshire.

Lady Elizabeth Cavendish was formerly an Extra Lady in Waiting to The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon.

Lady Elizabeth died last month at the age of 92. Her funeral was held at St Peter’s Church in Edensor, on Thursday.

She was one of Princess Margaret’s closest aides and was her lady-in-waiting from the late 1940s until Margaret’s death in 2002.

It is widely reported that Lady Elizabeth introduced Princess Margaret to her future husband, Antony Armstrong-Jones, in 1951.

She remained a close friend of the Armstrong-Jones family and was godmother to  David, the current Earl of Snowdon.

Lady Elizabeth was highly decorated in recognition of her service to The Royal Family and was appointed Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order in 1976 and Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 1997.

Princess Margaret’s daughter, Lady Sarah Chatto, was at the funeral representing the monarch.

The Lord Lieutenant of Powys, Dame Shân Legge-Bourke, was also at the service representing the Princess Royal.

Princess Alexandra was also represented at the funeral by her lady-in-waiting, Meriel Afia.
