Princess Anne visits opening of the Balmoral Show

Princess Anne visited the Balmoral Show during its opening day on the 16th of May.

The event features a range of livestock classes, showjumping, as well as hundreds of stands showing off several trades and crafts.

The Balmoral Show has a long 150-year history and it still proves to be popular today. Organisers believe tens of thousands of people will visit the show over it’s four day period.

One of those visitors was Princess Anne.

Princess Anne toured the Show, guided by Richard Donnan the Head of Northern Ireland t Ulster Bank.

During the tour, she spent time talking to Jack Morton from Jack’s fudge. The Ulster Bank provided several companies with free space for exhibits in their marquee with the fudge company being one of them.

Another exhibit Princess Anne vis1ited was Hyro-ease, a company that boasts being Northern Ireland’s only “flotation centre.” They offer therapy services, one of those being flotation, which is said to help relax and act as a form of therapy.

As well as that, she talked to many traders and agriculture vendors. She met the president of the Ulster Farmer’s Union, Ivor Ferguson, who described the royal as being “very approachable and very down to earth.” He complimented her as he said she was “fully up-to-speed with what happens in farming.”

Speaking about their conversation to AgriLand, Ferguson said that they spoke about the issues facing farmers in the local area, as well as the upcoming centenary of the Farmers’ Union.

It seemed everyone she met that day only had positive things to say, as photographers working at the event said she came across as “very relaxed” and appeared to be “very interested in what we were doing”.

Princess Anne is a huge horse lover, having represented the UK at the European Championships as well as the Olympic Games. It should come as no surprise that she attended the showjumping competition while she visited.

Princess Anne watched Kerry Taggart ride Ivira as they took the Five-Year old Championship title.
