Sir Elton John performs at the Royal Wedding reception

Sir Elton John performed at the Lunchtime Reception for the wedding guests of the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Prince Harry personally asked Sir Elton to perform at the reception. Due to the close connection, Sir Elton has with Prince Harry and the family he accepted.

The Queen hosted the lunchtime reception at St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle. 600 guests were invited to attend the reception which features an impressive range of canapés and desserts.

Elton John has had a long relationship with the Royal Family. Princess Margaret and The Queen Mother were allegedly huge fans of his music, according to the Press Association.

Elton John regularly attended art events with Princess Margaret and, if you can believe it, “jived with The Queen to Bill Haley’s hit Rock Around The Clock.”

Elton John attended another Royal Wedding in 1986, that of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. and lather Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011.

Elton John’s most fruitful Royal relationship was the one he had with Princess Diana. John and Diana first met at Windsor Castle, the setting of Harry and Meghan’s reception.

Speaking to the Time,  Elton John spoke about one of his first meetings with Prince Harry  years ago, saying: “What a joy it has been to see that young boy grow to inherit his mother’s warmth, sense of humour and courage to stand up and champion the cause he truly believes in.”

When talking about Harry’s relationship with Meghan, he recounted some time he spent with Harry in Italy. He said, “I could tell that he was totally in love, and he didn’t really discuss much personally but he said, ‘I’m in love’ and I thought ‘good four you.”

“Both those boys seem to have been ecstatically happy, and that’s all you want people to be.”
