On Monday, 25 April, Prince Harry will attend three Anzac Day Services on behalf of Her Majesty. He will be joined by the High Commissioners from both Australia and New Zealand who organised these commemoration services.
With his ten years in the military, this day of service and commemoration holds great significance for the Prince. He has spent time on the frontline and has been in the trenches right alongside his fellow comrades.
The very first Anzac Day Service was held in 1916 when King George V attended a service at Westminster Abbey after the Anzac landing at Gallipoli. This day of tribute and remembrance is to honour all the lives of the men and women from all wars from Australia and New Zealand who made the ultimate sacrifice.
It is a time for all expatriot and visiting Australians and New Zealanders to remember their countrymen and women, and to showcase their continuing bond with the United Kingdom.
The first service will be held at dawn at Wellington Arch Hyde Park Corner. His Royal Highness will lay a wreath during the forty-five minute service. Readings will also be read, which include: the Last Post, silence, reveille. The national anthems will also be played.
The second service will occur later that morning at Cenotaph on Whitehall, the former military royal will lay another wreath on behalf of the Queen. A parade consisting of 300-400 participants made up of members of veterans’ associations, service
and ex-service personnel and their families.
After the parade, Prince Harry will join guests at the Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving service at Westminster Abbey. This is to be a traditional church service. It will include an ‘Act of Remembrance’, the Last Post and Kemal Ataturk’s words from Anzac Cove read by the Turkish Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
I think the Royal family are part of the problem. Australia should be a republic.
