The Queen’s granddaughter will be making her debut at the American classic equestrian events with Trevor Hemmings’ horse on whom she rode when she won British team’s silver medal at last year’s World Equestrian Games.

As of yet, nine British riders will be competing in the event including William Fox-Pitt, who has previously won the Rolex Kentucky three times, most recently last year.

Nicola Wilson is also hoping to take part in the events despite breaking her collarbone earlier in the year.

Nicola was part of the gold medal-winning British team at the 2010 World Equestrian Games at Kentucky on Opposition Buzz. This will be her first visit back to the site since the 2010 championship.

Zara is a very successful sportsperson winning a silver medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games as part of the equestrian eventing team, and was voted Sports Personality of the Year in 2006. She is very respected in the equestrianism world; gaining a reputation for getting horses to jump over many challenging fences.

The Rolex Kentucky is a CCI**** eventing competition, and the only four-star event in the West. Four stars is the highest level of competition possible and is at the same standard as the Olympics.

Entries for the Rolex Kentucky do not close until March 24th, meaning the contenders have not yet been finalised. So far, 23 horses are entered, nine of them being rode by a Briton.

Before Zara heads to Kentucky, she will be hoping that her horse will also become victorious in the 2015 Crabbie’s Grand National at Aintree.

She and her husband Mike partly own Monbeg Dude, a 10 year old bay gelding, who will be racing in the world’s most prestigious race on April 11th.

The horse’s trainer, Michael Scudamore, said “Monbeg Dude is in really good form and it is all systems go for Aintree. I have been delighted with him so far this season.”
