It’s not yet been announced where the Duchess of Sussex has chosen to have her first baby and it’s just as likely that we won’t find out until after the new seventh in line to the throne has made their debut. But that hasn’t stopped one location, the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, yet again becoming the focus of royal baby watchers everywhere. Whether or not we all end up staring at its famous wooden doors again remains to be seen. But if baby Sussex does arrive there, they will follow a long line of royal relations who make up the Lindo Wing babies.
Peter and Zara Phillips
The Queen’s first grandchild was born at St. Mary’s on November 15th 1977. His parents, Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, chose the same location to welcome their second child, Zara, on May 15th 1981. She was photographed being carried out of the hospital, in a very businesslike manner, by her mother days later.
Prince William and Prince Harry
Just over a year later, the second in line to the throne made his debut at the Lindo Wing. Diana, Princess of Wales gave birth to William there on June 21st 1982 with Prince Charles famously carrying him out of the hospital.
Just over two years later, the couple presented their second son to the world on the same steps. Prince Harry was delivered at the Lindo on September 15th 1984.
The Cambridge children
There were no surprises when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced they would use the Lindo for the birth of their first child. Prince George of Cambridge arrived there safely on July 22nd 2013.
Princess Charlotte of Cambridge was born there on May 2nd 2015 and faced the cameras just hours later.
Prince Louis of Cambridge is the most recent Lindo Wing royal baby, arriving on April 23rd 2018.
The Royal Cousins
Lady Gabriella Windsor, who married Tom Kingston in just a few weeks’ time giving us this year’s almost compulsory dose of royal wedding fever, is another St. Mary’s baby. She was born there on April 23rd 1981 while her big brother, Lord Frederick, made his debut in the same hospital on April 6th 1979. The Duchess of Gloucester also used St. Mary’s for the birth of her three children. Alexander, Earl of Ulster arrived there on October 24th 1974 followed by sisters, Lady Davina (November 19th 1977) and Lady Rose (March 1st 1980).
