William and Kate seek a maternity nurse in preparation for baby number two

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who are expecting their second child in April, are looking for a full-time maternity nurse to help with the new baby.

The Royal parents are to have begun asking about a full-time maternity nurse in September, when they approached the Norland Agency and Royal Nannies in London. William and Catherine are looking for a nurse who will stay will them for at least three months after the new baby is born.

In a breach with Royal tradition, The Duke and Duchess opted not to hire a maternity nurse after Prince George was born in 2013, instead relying on the Middleton family for help and support.

However, this time around, things are different. Not only has the royal couple’s workload increased, but they will also have to deal with the new big brother, George, who will be just a few months short of two years old when his younger brother or sister is born.

The new nurse will be employed in addition to Prince George’s present nanny, Maria Teresa Borrallo, who accompanied the Royal family on their visit to Australia and New Zealand last year.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will also rely on their housekeeper Antonella Fresolone, who has been a part of William and Catherine’s household for nearly two years. According to an unnamed source, “She is very capable and a great cook. It’s like having their very own domestic goddess. She made sure the Duchess was well fed during her pregnancy, cooking up steaming bowls of pasta and delicious risotto dishes. They couldn’t do without her.”

A maternity nurse is employed to look after the mother and baby in the few weeks following the birth of the child. It has always been tradition for members of the Royal Family to hire a maternity nurse to help them look after the new mother and child. Even Princess Diana had a nurse – Barbara Barnes – to help look after Prince William for the first few weeks of his life.
