The Queen and Prince Philip visit the gaol and Game of Thrones

<![CDATA[The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh had a full schedule on Tuesday during their visit to Northern Ireland. The Royal couple first stopped at Crumlin Road Gaol in Belfast.
On 31 March 1996 the Governor of Belfast's Crumlin Road Gaol walked out of the fortified prison slamming its gates shut for the final time. The closing ended a 150-year history of imprisonment, conflict and executions.

The gaol, a nineteenth century Grade ‘A’ listed building recently completed a considerable refurbishment and now is open for visitors who wish to learn about its history.
Following words of welcome from the First Minister and Deputy First Minister, Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh embarked on a short tour of the Gaol’s ‘C’ Wing before departing.
The second engagement of the day had The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visit the ‘Game of Thrones’ set at Titanic Quarter in East Belfast.
Since 2009 the widely successful ‘Game of Thrones’ television series has been filmed throughout Northern Ireland and, in particular, at the Paint Hall studio in the Titanic Quarter.

The Queen and Prince Philip were met by David Benioff and Dan Weiss, Executive Producers and Writers of Game of Thrones where they were then given an overview of the television series whilst touring the Red Keep set.
During the tour, the Royal couple met members of the crew including those from costume and weapon design and had the chance to see many of the props and costumes from the series. Upon arriving at the Throne Room Set, The Queen and The Duke met with cast past and present.
