The King is understood to have invited many members of his extended family to the celebration at the Palace with just nine days to go until Christmas itself.

There had been speculation over whether Beatrice and Eugenie would attend this annual get together after weeks of further controversy around their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

He lost his titles after The King removed his HRH and Prince and asked the Lord Chancellor to strike Duke of York from the Roll of Peerage.

No members of the Royal Family were spotted at the christening last week of Beatrice’s younger daughter, Athena Mapelli Mozzi.

However, the two princesses were all smiles as they arrived for the annual lunch which allows The King to celebrate Christmas with his wider family.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were also seen arriving with their three children.
