Hundreds gathered at the cathedral for the ceremony organised by the National FEPOW Fellowship Welfare Remembrance Association. The Duke attended as the organisation’s patron. The couple were able to speak with veterans who had served, as well as their family members.

Their Royal Highnesses were then in Suffolk for another service. The second service was held for the Children and Families of the Far East Prisoners of War.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were in their city. The pair attended a moving service held at the Scottish War Memorial in Edinburgh Castle.

His Royal Highness laid a wreath at the Memorial in the Crown Block of the castle. Prince Edward appeared in reflective mood as he placed the tribute.

Later, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh spoke to veterans.
