Princess Anne oversees investiture at Windsor

The Princess Royal had a busy day at Windsor Castle as she presented over 70 honours recipients with their medals. 

The Princess Royal represented the King as she presented several different honours at Windsor. 

The late novelist Sir Martin Amis was awarded a KBE; his wife received the order on his behalf. Joe Root, cricketer and former captain of the England team, received his MBE. Lizzie Deignan, a world champion track and road cyclist, also received her MBE on Wednesday. 

Princess Anne also spoke with the recipients afterwards. Organist Anna Lapwood has an incredibly popular TikTok account where she shares her practices and performances in several stunning venues received her MBE on Wednesday. She spoke with The Princess Royal about the importance of making space for women in music and allowing them to be confident. 

The Order of the British Empire is awarded to those who have had outstanding achievement or dedicated service in their field. The highest class of the Order is the Knight Grand Cross/ Dame Grand Cross, followed by the Knight Commander/ Dame Commander, Commander, and Member. 

The British sovereign is sovereign of the order, and a senior member of the Royal Family acts as Grand Master. The Grand Master is currently Queen Camilla.
