Royal Family wedding bells as Peter Phillips announces engagement to Harriet Sperling

Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips, has announced he is getting married.

Peter has confirmed he is engaged to Harriet Sperling.

The two have been dating for a year and were recently seen together at several high profile events including Royal Ascot and Wimbledon.

The couple announced their plans in an exclusive interview with Hello magazine, saying ”Mr Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, and Ms Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr Rupert Sanders and Mrs Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement.”

The bride was seen wearing an all diamond engagement ring in photos released to mark the engagement.

The statement continued ”Both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement. Their Majesties The King and Queen,  The Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed of the announcement. No date has been officially set for the wedding.”

Peter Phillips is the only son of the Princess Royal and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, He is the eldest grandson of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and was fifth in line to the throne at the time of his birth in 1977. He is now 19th.

He was previously married to Autumn Kelly, with their wedding taking place in 2008 at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor. They had two daughters together, Savannah, 14, and Isla, 12, before divorcing in 2021.

Harriet Sperling, who works as an NHS paediatrician as well as a freelance writer, has a daughter from a previous relationship.
